Garth Turner is Stuck On Stupid
Retards
Tuesday, 10 June 2008

In trying to explain why a carbon tax would be a good thing, Liberal Member of Parlament Garth Turner writes the following on his blog :

The tax-shift plan is about more than cutting your taxes, though. Since Dion wants to put a price on pollution, a major goal is clearly to reduce it. Suddenly companies that clean up their act would be better off financially. Those that don’t, or can’t, pay more.

Would those polluters – oil producers, hydro generating stations, smelters, mills, manufacturers – pass on this new tax burden to consumers in the form of higher prices? After all, this is the foundation of the Conservative attack on the idea. (By the way, Mr. Harper’s government has yet to force any companies to reduce their polluting emissions.)

(emphasis mine)

Someone really needs to tell Garth Turner that hydro stations don't generate pollution.

What really gets me is that an idiot like Turner is sitting in elected office...

First up, if the state doesn't like the way you think, they'll take your kids away from you :

WINNIPEG–The Manitoba government has seized two young children from a Winnipeg home based on concerns their father – an alleged neo-Nazi – was filling their heads and marking their bodies with messages of hate.

The government agency is now seeking a permanent order of guardianship based on ongoing concerns about the safety of the 7-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy.

A Court of Queen's Bench case is ongoing, with the next hearing set for today. "The children may be at risk due to the parents' behaviour and associates. The parents might endanger the emotional well-being of the children," Child and Family Services wrote in court documents obtained by the Winnipeg Free Press.

Winnipeg police confirmed their involvement in the case, which came to a head in late March when school officials raised concerns about the little girl.

A source told the newspaper the girl showed up one morning in class with writing on her body, including a swastika and a common white supremacist symbol "14/88".

The number 14 refers to a slogan containing 14 words – "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children", while 88 represents the letters HH (the eighth in the alphabet) to mean "Heil Hitler."

Const. Pat Chabidon confirmed the father was recently interviewed based on allegations he was involved in "hate crimes involving children." Police had questioned him regarding similar concerns in 2005, he said.

No criminal charges have been laid, but police turned the file over to CFS, Chabidon said.

The mother of the children is also named in the CFS application as being unfit to parent, based on her relationship with her husband. He is the biological father of the young boy and the stepfather of the girl.

"There are also concerns about parental drug and alcohol use in the home," CFS wrote.

The couple couldn't be reached for comment, and their lawyer didn't return phone messages.

They have not yet filed any affidavits outlining their position. A judge recently ordered a psychological report on the father as part of the ongoing case.

Um...   So in effect, the government is saying to the parents:  "We can't charge you with any sort of crime but we're going to take your kids away anyhow.  You know, because you might be guilty of something in the future..."

Next we have Khurrum Awan, islamofascist mouthpiece and sock-puppet:

TORONTO -- Muslims must "demand that right to participate" in national media, Khurrum Awan, the primary witness in the Maclean's magazine hate speech hearing, told a weekend conference of the Canadian Arab Federation.

"And we have to tell them, you know what, if you're not going to allow us to do that, there will be consequences. You will be taken to the human rights commission, you will be taken to the press council, and you know what? If you manage to get rid of the human rights code provisions [on hate speech], we will then take you to the civil courts system. And you know what? Some judge out there might just think that perhaps it's time to have a tort of group defamation, and you might be liable for a few million dollars," he said.

[...]

He said that the argument for limitless free speech "is really a far-right Republican argument that is being imported into this country."

Right...  Freedom is un-Canadian...  Well, judging by the first article, he could be correct...
